Both hand and power tools are used by many
professionals and amateurs. Although power tools are preferred in many
industrial environments for their efficiency, others still use hand
tools for more accurate and finer tasks. Both types have benefits in
terms of the tasks that need to be done and the industry. In general,
for workers doing single and repetitive tasks, tools like table, chop,
and band saws give the most efficiency. Similarly, when workers are
needed to work with hard concrete or rocks, hand tools with man power
don't provide enough force, and ones like heavy-duty drivers and hammers
are the only ones available for the task. But when you think of finer
tasks like wood or metal working, hand tools are often used for finer
tasks.
Power tools, much like a sewing machine for making
clothing, are needed for efficiency. Think of all the time that would be
wasted by making cuts with a hand saw. As these have motors attached,
saws, for example, are capable of cutting through materials at a much
quicker speed than a saw powered by one or more workers. The accuracy,
particularly with saws, is enhanced by those, like saws, that give a
cleaner cut. Efficiency also includes the ability to do tasks that
workers can't do alone. Tools like drivers, hammers, and drillers are
designed in some cases to have additional power to cut through rock,
concrete, and other hard materials without getting damaged.
In
general, power tools are preferable to hand opeated ones, but some
industries still incorporate these for finer tasks. Woodworking and
metalworking are such industries that use hand tools to create flatter,
more even surfaces and finer crafted cuts that simply can't be done by
those powered by motors. In addition to giving workers more control in
these industries, they give more precision for finer tasks. Whether a
worker is using a hand planer or a cutting tool, both give more control
in woodworking.
